BRA Guide for Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) Issue 1 December 2011

The Method Statements give a brief description of the task that is to be assessed. The Risk Assessments describe the type of hazards that can occur, how to control them (and thereby reduce the associated risks) and what to do in the event of an accident or imminent danger occurring. The use of R744 (Carbon Dioxide) as the working refrigerant for Commercial Display Cabinets is fast replacing HFC installations. The British Refrigeration Association Cabinet & Coldstore Section has considered the implications of this application with respect to how the refrigeration system connected to these display cabinets should be isolated. It is ideal for maintenance for shut-off valves to be provided, but the Health & Safety implications and adherence to standards must be understood.
The BRA C&C section has produced a Factfinder after consultation with key users (many of whom are already working in this way), and the intention is to enable effective maintenance in a safe manner, and with consistency from manufacturers and end-user specification. Available to download here.

A revised directory of standards is available for FETA members. First published in September 2008, the document lists the various associations within FETA and the standards that are appropriate to those parts of the membership. Also included are the various BSI committees that have responsibility for each standard. The directory was compiled by Ian Andrews Associates, specialist in directives, regulations, standards and legislation for the appliance and ventilation industries.
