HOSE MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION

HMSA CODE OF PRACTICE
Problems may arise, even with the best hoses, if they are not installed correctly. The HMSA sought to avoid this possibility by writing guidance for specifiers, installers and maintenance staff which was published as BSRIA CoP 11/2002.

TEST STANDARD
Closed-circuit heating and cooling systems rely upon hose assemblies to operate across a wide range of pressures and temperatures. In order to demonstrate that hoses and their fittings could achieve the required performance characteristics for a minimum of 10 years, it was necessary to specify a rigorous test standard, published as BSRIA BG4/2004.

The standard is written around a 3000 hour accelerated ageing and conditioning period at high temperature and pressure, followed by a series of mechanical tests to verify their integrity. A copy can be seen and downloaded here.

HMSA members tested a range of their products under this regime in a purpose built test-rig at BSRIA, both to demonstrate the validity of the test and to demonstrate the quality of the assemblies.

Companies with products that successfully pass the HMSA test standard are able to claim this distinction.
