Aims & Objectives | Benefits of Membership

The British Refrigeration Association (B.R.A.) is the only trade association representing manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, distributors, contractors, specifiers and end-users of refrigeration plant, equipment and components. It also includes producers of refrigerants and lubricants, colleges and training establishments. It works closely with government, public bodies and other organisations, both in the UK and overseas, to further the interests of the refrigeration industry. BRA was originally formed in 1940 under the name "Commercial Electric Refrigeration Association". It has worked continuously since 1940, as C.E.R.A., B.R.A., B.R.A.C.A and now again B.R.A. to promote the interests of the Refrigeration Industry. Membership is open to European registered companies who are wholly or partly engaged in, or associated with, the refrigeration industry.

NEW - Global HVAC&R Industry Survey on Natural Refrigerants - 11 July 2011

This HVAC&R industry survey is the first one about the global market for Natural Refrigerants (carbon dioxide, ammonia, hydrocarbons) in different applications. The results will be published in a "guide to natural refrigerants" in Autumn 2011. More details and a link to the survey on the BRA Hot Topics page.

NEW - Code of Conduct for Carbon Reduction in the Retail Sector

The Carbon Trust, in collaboration with the British Refrigeration Association (BRA) and the Institute of Refrigeration (IoR), has developed a voluntary Code of Conduct designed to help reduce carbon emissions in retail refrigeration used in grocery stores up and down the UK. The Code of Conduct was launched at the end of June 2011. Further details at www.retailrefrigerationcodeofconduct.org.uk

REFRIGERATION ROAD MAP - An action plan for the retail sector (CTG021) - 12 July 2010

Produced in conjunction with the Carbon Trust, this Refrigeration Road Map introduces the main energy saving opportunities for refrigeration use in the retail sector and demonstrates how simple actions save energy use, cut costs and increase profit margins. Freely downloadable from the Carbon Trust website. Members of BRA can download the Roadmap from the members area (requires your FETA username and password)

Sections within BRA

BRA conducts the majority of its business within specialist sections. These sections meet 3 or 4 times a year, and they deal with issues and topics that directly affect their businesses. As well as the more formal part of the meeting, members find the informal networking over lunch to be an invaluable benefit of membership.

The sections within BRA are:

• Training Section

The Association represents the interests of its Members and specifically:

• Promotes and defends the interests of all sections of the refrigeration industry.
• Obtains maximum publicity for the industry through exhibitions, promotions and general public relations and emphasises the products and services of Members in so doing.
• Influences legislation, regulation, policies and standards that affect or might affect, the technical or commercial interest of the industry in general and Members in particular.
• Develops and promotes high standards of quality, design, safety and workmanship in the industry.
• Encourages uniform high standards of competence and of training and education to achieve this at all levels throughout the industry.
• Co-ordinates market and technical research into areas of common interest identified by Members
• Works to improve trading conditions and promote trading opportunities for Members in home and overseas markets.
