Mr David Reay

David Reay is a consulting engineer, specialising in heat transfer and thermodynamics. His main areas of interest are compact heat exchangers, heat pumps and process intensification. He is an advisor to the UK Heat Pump Council, in particular on industrial heat pump technology. He is a Visiting Professor at 3 Universities: Nottingham (Built Environment), Heriot-Watt (Mechanical Engineering) and Newcastle (Chemical Engineering). He lectures on heat pump technology at two of these.

Cool Concerns

Cool Concerns Ltd provides practical consultancy and training for the refrigeration industry. We have a unique range of expertise, skills and experience and provide cost effective solutions by working in close partnership with our customers.

Our consultancy service is extensive, ranging from advice on reducing energy and refrigerant usage, through equipment and component evaluation to onsite trouble shooting, auditing and recomissioning. Our aim is to save our customers' money by providing relevant and practical experience.

We carry out R & D projects for manufacturers and suppliers, both on site and at our facility in the West Midlands. This ranges from development of systems running on natural refrigerants to evaluation of engineers' tools and equipment.

The training we provide is tailored to individual needs and ranges from short sessions covering the basics to more in depth service and maintenance courses, specialist courses in HCs and CO2 and NVQs for apprentices and experienced workers. We also assess candidates for refrigerant handling and brazing skills. Our emphasis is on practical training using state of the art equipment and tools, backed up by high quality up to date presentations. All training is prepared and presented by engineers who have in depth experience of a wide range of RAC systems and applications.

Refrigeration Developments and Testing (RD&T)

RD&T provides independent, knowledgeable and expert advice to develop the performance of refrigeration equipment and systems. Services include:

  • Design and testing of domestic, professional and retail refrigeration systems. Help can be provided at all stages from initial concept to development of prototypes to final optimisation and testing. RD&T combines the use of advanced mathematical modelling tools with practical design knowledge and skills to provide expert applied solutions.
  • Witness testing of the domestic, professional and retail refrigeration equipment.
  • Advice on how to comply with energy labelling or other temperature/ energy/ safety performance requirements. Staff have in-depth knowledges of test standards, energy labelling and performance metrics used to assess performance of refrigeration equipment.

Ventilation Fire Smoke Ltd - Paul White

Paul White has extensive experience in the design of fire dampers and smoke control dampers. He is heavily involved in the relevant standardisation work for these products at national and international level. He works closely with regulators to help influence emerging changes. Allied with this he also has experience in the application of products in smoke control systems, having worked in this subcontracting area. Ventilation Fire Smoke Limited can offer consultancy/training on the above and also fire damper site inspection and test services. Paul has achieved a masters level qualification as an Expert Witness and so offers this service in these areas too.

Ian Andrews Associates

Ian has spent over twenty years in the ventilation industry and before that some ten years in the appliance industry. He can offer advice on various matters relating to directives, regulations, standards and legislation where he has been heavily involved for many years. He can also manage your third party certification requirements; represent your company and your views at various stages in the development of British, European and International standards; conduct system reviews; help with your product "user instructions" and more. He also has experience in providing "expert witness" and carrying out research projects.
